In high school I was a big dork for the Wheel of Time books... I got behind on reading them, and after awhile just gave up because I was too scared to get back into it as the huge page count stared me down.

I once had the pleasure of having dinner with he and his wife, around 1996, in Lexington KY. He was a great guy, great writer.

Maybe I do need to re-read those books.

Okay, I never made it out to Elysian Fields when I was in NYC. I met up with my good friend Richie and we decided to see David Lynch's "Inland Empire" instead. I am a big Lynch fan, and I'd say this is a film to be appreciated and not loved. I enjoyed it, but I'll be damned if I could actually tell you what it's about.

 I was only in NYC for a few days, and we had holiday stuff to attend to, so I didn't go to a ton of restaurants. Here is where I did go, though, for those keeping score at home:

Thursday Night --
Two Boots Pizza on Avenue A
Pizza place connected to a DVD rental place. I think I got a slice named after Mr Pink. It was delicious. I wish I ate 12.

Friday Lunch -
Westville
Met up with my old pal Charlesworth  and his wife (Stephanie) and unborn child at this burger place he read about on Chowhound. It was good, but it didn't make me lose my mind.

Friday Dinner -
Mary Ann's on Second Ave
This is where I had dinner with Rich. I'm sure there's better places to eat in the hood, but it was raining and they had seating. My food was actually really good, and the margaritas helped out with the Lynch film.

Sunday Lunch
Better Burger on 19th and 8th
Organic burger joint that was cheap and great. Loved the fries, and the guacamole. And the price. My sister goes here a lot and I understasnd why.

Sunday Dinner (Christmas Eve)
Il Bagatto on 2nd St
This restaurant is in the same building as where my sister lives. It had a nice winter wonderland decor, and the food was great. Holy crap I miss you, lasanga. And the Christmas cake with vanilla cake, vanilla gellato and chocolate syrus, I miss you so much.

The rest of the trip was spent in NJ. As far as food and NJ is concerned, there's only one thing you need to know:

I'm heading off to NYC Thursday for the holidays. I normally just go to NJ, but now my sister lives in NYC and the rest of my family is in NJ, so my time is split.

As typical of the holiday season, there's really no good shows going on the few evenings I could go out. I did find out that Elysian Fields are playing Joe's Pub Friday night, so I'm going to go to that. Should be good.

Need to eat some good foods, too. That post Kathryn did about the bacon has me intrigued...

Hello Vox Blog, let's see if I can keep you going.

Yesterday we went up to Cleveland Ohio to see the newly restored house from "A Christmas Story." This was the house/street they used for the exterior shots of the film and a few interior shots. The house was recently rennovated and is now accepting tours (cheap, $5).

There's also a museum across the street with props from the film and a lot of personal photos. Well worth the drive north.

Spent a full week in Chicago for a vacation with Kiesha, back now. If you don't count things like SXSW, this was our first vacation in like 3 years. Had a great time. Hit a lot of the museums, aquarium, Pitchfork Festival, what have you.

Last week seemed to sort of blow by, but I think it was because I was head down working on a bunch of donewaiting.com stuff. I moved the advertising a little higher on the msg board (people went a little loopy, I think they're okay), and worked on some other things in advance of bringing in more advertising.

I know that sort of stuff sucks to some people, but daddy's gotta pay the bills... As long as we don't overdo it we'll be fine, I think/hope/pray.

I'll about 8 days we head off for a week's vacation in Chicago... I am really looking forward to that!

Yesterday I went over Megan Palmer's house and we sent out 100ish CDs to press and radio for her new album, out in September on my record label.

Later in the evening Kiesha and I went to Target and she purchased a new bike - she's been wanting one for awhile. Unfortunately we couldn't fit it in her car so she had to ride it home - 4 miles!

That might not be a lot for some of you Lance Armstrong's out there, but for a girl's first bike ride in many years, that was a lot! I was really proud of her!!! Go Kiesha!

We caught a 10:50 showing of Pirates of the Caribbean 2... The Arena Grand had crazy peoples dressed up like pirates, which is always fun to enjoy (and mock).... I loved the movie. Kiesha thought it was okay.

Then we slept.

Earlier today I met with Eric Metronome and Kim to discuss his release in October. I think we made a lot of progress... Word..

Donewaiting.com redesign is here. I was pretty scared to do it - after having the same design for almost 4 years, you get used to things... and they normally make some users grumpy...

Hey, it's the fourth of July. I started a redesign of donewaiting.com around noon (shhh!) and now, at 4:54, I realize I've spent quite some time on it. Holy crap.

It's looking good. We're doing some big changes. Maybe it will launch tonight.
